NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Cardinal Timothy Dolan visited Ukraine over the weekend to meet with refugees fleeing the devastation of Russia’s war, now in its third month.
The New York archbishop was in Poland on Monday following an unannounced trip to Lviv in western Ukraine. He has also visited Romania and Slovakia.
Dolan tweeted video of him meeting with refugees and the Catholic relief agencies that have been caring for them along the border of Poland and Ukraine—a region now dotted with soldiers and security checkpoints.

As he was on a bus to Warsaw on Monday, Dolan told 1010 WINS that he has been saying daily Mass in tents at intake sites, called mercy centers, along the border.
“Yesterday, we were in a little village along the Polish border, and the whole train station just turned into a welcome center—overnight lodging, doctors and nurses available,” he said.
Dolan was inspired and uplifted by the outpouring of care for refugees.
“The households and families of these border countries have stepped up and heroically said, ‘We want them.’ So they’re in people’s homes,” he said.
Ukrainians also asked Dolan to tell Americans “how grateful we are for their help.”
