NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New Yorkers gathered in Times Square on Wednesday to cast off the hardships of 2022 ahead of the new year.

The 16th annual Good Riddance Day ceremony was held at noon Wednesday.

This year’s ceremony included an obstacle course — a poetic analogy for leaving behind hardship and navigating change.

One participant told 1010 WINS' Steve Burns she hoped to cast off bad energy, while another bid good riddance to an ex-husband.

Others wished for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. A child told Burns he wants to leave behind a basketball loss.

The event took place ahead of the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration and ball drop ceremony.
