
CLAYTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey bus driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting nearly two dozen kids to school on Friday morning, authorities said.
Suzanne Stoms, 48, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, drunk driving, commercial driver's license DUI, DUI with minor passengers and reckless driving.
Stoms’ bus was pulled over at 9:10 a.m. at Franklin Street and Poe Avenue in Clayton, based on tip from her boyfriend that she might have been drinking, according to WPVI-TV.
Officers conducted a field sobriety test on the scene which Stoms "failed," a a letter from Superintendent Nikolaos Koutsogiannis said, adding that there were 23 elementary age students on the bus.”
"I want to apologize for the behavior of this employee," Koutsogiannis said. "We will be terminating the employee immediately."
Stoms was released from police custody and is expected back in court on March 21.
