NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- NJ Transit rail service into and out of Penn Station resumed Tuesday after it was suspended for about two hours due to a slow-speed derailment at the station, officials said.
Rail service resumed shortly after 11:15 a.m. following the derailment just before 9 a.m. As of noon, trains were still subject to delays of up to 60 minutes.
According to NJ Transit, a 7:30 a.m. train out of Trenton derailed at a "slow speed" as it was entering Penn Station. The train remained upright during the "minor" derailment, and no injuries were reported to the 1,500 passengers and crew.
While service resumed, Midtown Direct service continued to be diverted to Hoboken.
NJ Transit rail tickets and passes were still being cross honored by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street, as well as by NJ Transit bus and private carriers. Additional updates can be found at NJTransit.com.
Amtrak warned that service between New York and Newark was still subject to delays of up to 30 minutes after it previously warned of "lengthy delays."
