New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs is the latest in a line of major political figures to call for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign after an investigation by the attorney general's office concluded he has sexually harassed multiple women.

Jacobs said in a statement that he wanted to wait for the investigation to conclude before making a determination on the allegations that came out earlier this year.

But he now calls Attorney General Letitia James' report, released Tuesday, “extremely damning and upsetting.”

Jacobs says he decided to release a statement calling for resignation, saying he believes Cuomo will “prolong the current situation” rather than resign quickly.

“I believe the women. I believe the allegations. I cannot speak to the Governor’s motivations. What I can say is that the Governor has lost his ability to govern, both practically and morally,” says Jacobs.

Following the release of the investigation that substantiated claims by 11 women against Cuomo, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday it is launching an inquiry into the allegations that happened in New York City.

The DAs for Westchester and Nassau counties said Wednesday that they too would be requesting evidence to see if any crimes happened in their jurisdictions.

Jacobs closed out by saying New York is better for having had Cuomo govern the state, but that the time has come for him to resign. He says he made the governor aware of his decision during a phone call Wednesday.
