NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney on Tuesday announced he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Maloney – who represents parts of the northern New York suburbs including Orange, Putnam, Dutchess and Westchester counties – said he is experiencing symptoms but noted he is fully vaccinated.
"While I am experiencing minor cold-like symptoms, I'm grateful to be fully vaccinated and boosted, which is protecting me from more severe illness," he said in a post on Twitter.
He continued, "Please go get your vaccine and booster if you have not yet."
Maloney said he will be following the advice of the doctor who diagnosed him and will isolate while he recovers from the virus. During his isolation, he said he intends to work remotely.
In a statement, he thanked health care workers who have been "working throughout the pandemic to keep us safe" and stressed that getting vaccinated is the "best thing we can do to protect ourselves and our communities."
Maloney's diagnosis comes just days after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also announced she had tested positive for COVID-19.
Ocasio-Cortez's office said she was also experiencing symptoms, despite being vaccinated, and will continue to recover at home.
