NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The New York City Department of Transportation announced Monday that it has completed the installation of over 500 loading zones after receiving public feedback on areas frequently impacted by double parking and blocked bike and bus lanes caused by vehicle loading and unloading.

Nearly a year ago, the DOT launched an online platform where New Yorkers could report problematic areas, such as locations with frequent double parking or obstructed bike and bus lanes.

“Double parking is a nuisance for all users of our curb lane,” Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi said in a statement. “Loading zones are flexible spaces that increase turnover and reduce double parking up to 70 percent. Combined with automated double-parking enforcement and making last-mile package deliveries more efficient, the city is tackling congestion from multiple fronts.”

Since December 2021, the NYC DOT has installed nearly 3,000 loading zones.

Local Law 168 of 2021 requires the DOT to consider input from community boards, elected officials, and the public when determining the placement of new loading zones. The online platform remains a user-friendly way for New Yorkers to provide feedback.
