NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A person died from heat exposure in New York City on Saturday — five days into an almost week-long heat wave, according to the city's medical examiner's office.
Officials said the person died of hyperthermia from environmental exposure, but did not release further details about the death or the identity of the victim.
Temperatures were as high as 94 degrees on Saturday with a "real feel" temperature around 98.
A heat advisory from the National Weather Service for New York City is in effect until Sunday at 8 p.m.
Health officials recommend New Yorkers avoid strenuous outdoor activity and find ways to stay as cool as possible.
