NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New York City Sanitation supervisor was arraigned on Tuesday for allegedly filing false time sheets and earning over $21,000 in pay for hours he was at home, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced.

Steven Taylor, 50, was arraigned on a 36-count indictment charging him with grand larceny, falsifying business records, misconduct, defrauding the government and related charges.

According to the investigation, between Feb. 1, 2021 and Jan. 21, 2022, Taylor claimed to be working but instead drove his city-issued car home and took hours-long breaks.

“This crime diminishes the reputation of our honest, hardworking civil servants,” Clark said.

He is also accused of filing seven summonses for administrative code violations and parking violations despite not being physically present at the locations to witness them, as is department policy.”

“City employees who falsify their timesheets and claim to be working, when in fact they are taking unauthorized breaks, commit fraud against the city and its taxpayers, as alleged in this indictment,” Department of Investigation Commissioner Jocelyn Strauber said. “This charged conduct diminishes precious City funds and falls far below the standard expected of City employees.”
