NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The Halloween spirit is possessing New York City this weekend as programming for the second annual "Trick-or-Streets" initiative kicks off across all five boroughs.

Mayor Eric Adams and Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced the locations that are part of the second annual Trick-or-Streets program Thursday, which provides 107 car-free locations to "expand safe public space for young people on Halloween."

"Every young New Yorker deserves a Halloween experience that is not only spooky but also fun and safe – and we're proud to deliver that with our 'Trick-or-Streets' program," Adams said.

The DOT has uploaded an interactive map that allows viewers to search for events spanning from Oct. 27 to Nov. 4. Events are planned into November in celebration of the Mexican holiday Día De Los Muertos.

The map can be accessed here.

There are 13 premier events happening in this time frame at which the DOT and its partners are providing free special programming, festive activities and expanded space for trick or treating.

1010 WINS spoke with Dyckman Gardens Director Susana Osorio in advance of the Dyckman Street premier event on Tuesday, sponsored by the garden.

The garden has been transformed into a land of life-sized goblins and ghouls, with Osorio – who has been decorating since Oct. 1 – stating that the garden has about 40 "monsters" to provide the kids with entertainment.

"So the kids is going to be here inside of the plaza, and on Tuesday we're going to close even the bike lane, so they can feel more safe. The parents, they're going to be safe. Because on Tuesday is a big day for us. A big day for the community," Osorio said.

The map also includes information regarding the other 94 partner events hosted by the DOT, including expanded free streets and Halloween-themed activities.

"Our streets serve all New Yorkers, and 'Trick-or-Streets' is a great example of how we can use them to bring joy and greater safety to so many children," said DOT Commissioner Rodriguez. "We thank Mayor Adams for his support building on the tremendous success of last year's event."
