NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A dump truck driver fatally struck a woman in a Brooklyn crosswalk on Thursday—and it's the exact same truck that fatally hit a beloved Queens crossing guard last October.

Maria Piovanetti, 58, left her Flatbush home and was crossing Bedford Avenue westbound in the crosswalk at Tilden Avenue around 6 a.m. Thursday when the driver of a dump truck headed southbound on Bedford Avenue struck her, police said.

Piovanetti was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver kept going to a construction site a block away, according to police.

Based on the license plate, it's the same red 2014 Kenworth truck belonging to Manolos Trucking that struck and killed crossing guard Krystyna Naprawa, 63, on the morning of Oct. 20, 2023.

Naprawa worked many years at the busy intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard where she was killed. The NYPD has upgraded safety gear and tools for crossing guards since her death.

In that collision, the 39-year-old driver remained at the scene and was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

It's unclear who was driving the truck in the latest incident. No arrests were immediately reported by police.
