Service at the nine-building Rangel Houses complex stopped at around 5:30 p.m. Friday night and didn’t return until about 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Temperatures dipped to 25 degrees Friday night and remained in the low 30s on Saturday.

Mayor Eric Adams came to tour the facility during repairs.

NYCHA housing is in general disrepair, and outages like this one are frequent.

Data released by the Legal Aid Society showed that NYCHA housing faced 97 heat, hot water and water outages over the course of 2021. Residents of New York City public housing suffered 105 outages the year before.
