NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An NYPD officer and another driver were injured in a crash on the Belt Parkway on Wednesday evening after a police cruiser hit a car pulled over on the side of the road.
The accident happened just after 8 p.m. on the westbound side of the parkway near Rockaway Parkway. A marked 2016 Dodge police vehicle struck a 2024 Chevrolet that was parked on the shoulder, according to officials.
Both the officer and the driver of the Chevrolet were transported to a local hospital.
Video from the Citizen App showed the front of the police cruiser with heavy damage and smoking.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. It is not yet known if any charges will be filed.
The crash came hours after an off-duty NYPD officer on a motorcycle was killed on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in a crash with a box truck, whose driver fled the scene.
