NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An NYPD officer was punched in the face while confronting an alleged robber in Harlem early Saturday morning, and the assailant is now facing various charges, police said.
Cops were searching for a suspect accused of snatching a chain off a man’s neck near Malcolm X Boulevard and 125th Street just after 1 a.m. on Saturday.
The robbery had taken place inside of a check cashing establishment, and when the suspect fled to the street, he was confronted by a police officer.
That is when the suspect, identified by police as Tynjah Patterson, allegedly punched the female officer in the face and ran off.
Authorities said that dozens of officers came out for backup, and Patterson was found hiding under a car on 126th Street.
Patterson, of the Bronx, is facing multiple charges including four counts of assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
The officer who was attacked is recovering.
