NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD mourned the loss of one of its four-legged members Wednesday.

Kobe, a Canine Unit member used on patrols and bomb-sniffing duty, passed away after eight years on the force working with Det. Robert Jubraj, the NYPD’s Chief of Special Operations, Harry Wedin, said Wednesday.
“#NYPD ESU #Canine Team is sad to announce the passing of police #K9 Kobe. He was a loyal partner to Detective Jubraj since being assigned in 2013,” Wedin wrote in a tweet.” Kobe was an 8-year veteran that was qualified to conduct patrol and explosive detection. #RIP”
Commissioner Dermot Shea added his condolences too, a day after briefing reporters on declining crime rates following a pandemic spike in 2020.
“Rest In Peace, Kobe,” Shea tweeted. “Thank you for your 8 years of dedicated service to the people of NYC.”
