Off-duty FDNY firefighter arrested in Brooklyn after fleeing moving car when gun spotted: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police arrested and charged an off-duty FDNY firefighter on Tuesday night after he fled his moving vehicle during a police stop in Brooklyn, authorities said.

At around 8:45 p.m. 26-year-old Kenyatta Ames was heading east on Myrtle Avenue in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood in a white BMW with excessive tint when officers pulled him over, officials said.


Ames fled from police at a "high rate of speed," after officials spotted a firearm inside the car, authorities said.

He then jumped out of the vehcile while it was still moving and fled on foot, the NYPD said.

The car then crashed into another empty vehicle, causing damage to its police said.

Officials caught up with Ames who now faces charges including criminal weapons possession charges, reckless endangerment, a windshield tint violation, leaving the scene of an accident, and public consumption of an alcoholic beverage, according to the NYPD.

The FDNY did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
