NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested and charged with assault and criminal mischief on Sunday for allegedly slamming his estranged wife into a wall and punching her, according to police and a report.
Robert Castillo, 51, was arrested in the Bronx around 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, the NYPD said Monday.
Prosecutors say Castillo shoved his wife into a wall inside her City Island home and punched her, leaving her with a cut on her lip and bruises on her face, the Daily News reported.
The NYPD officer was arrested after his wife reported the attack, according to the outlet.
Castillo was released on his own recognizance on Sunday and is expected to appear in court again next month, the outlet reported.
He was suspended without pay after the incident, the outlet noted.
