NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – At least 12 people were injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Brownsville, Brooklyn, on Wednesday morning, according to the FDNY.

The fire was reported to the FDNY at around 9:50 a.m. at 315 Sutter Ave. in the Hughes Apartments, Building 2, near Mother Gaston Boulevard. It broke out on the fourth floor of the 22-story fireproof high-rise building.


A total of 20 units responded to the scene, including 78 fire and EMS personnel, according to the FDNY.

So far, 12 people have been reported to have injuries and have been transported to local area hospitals.

The fire was put under control by 10:20 a.m.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
