NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The NYPD released surveillance footage of a would-be thief who crashed into an MTA bus and an SUV while trying to steal a car in Brooklyn late last month.
The wild video shows the suspect walking up to a car that was left parked and running in front of 2167 Nostrand Ave., Brooklyn at around 8:30 a.m. on July 29 while the 56-year-old driver was waiting to withdraw money at a nearby ATM.
As the suspect got into the car and started to drive off, the video shows the victim give chase and reach into the driver's side window, fighting to get control of the car.
During the struggle, the car first crashed head-on into an MTA bus with the victim desperately hanging onto the vehicle. The car then backed up into another unoccupied parked car, police said.
The suspect then got out and ran, but the driver chased after him. When the victim lost sight of him, authorities said the suspect came back and tried to steal the car once again, but ran southbound on Nostrand Avenue after the victim and a bystander tried to catch him.
The driver suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Mt. Sinai Brooklyn Hospital in stable condition.

Authorities are now searching for the suspect described as 16 to 20 years old, with braids, who was seen wearing a blue shirt, black jeans and black and white sneakers.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
