Power outage reported at JFK's Terminal 1 after fire, 'electrical panel failure,' flights affected

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A power outage at JFK Airport's Terminal 1 that began Thursday has since continued to impact flights, officials said.

At 2:53 p.m., JFK Airport tweeted, "A power outage at JFK Terminal 1 is impacting the terminal’s ability to accept inbound and outbound flights. We are working to accommodate impacted flights using other terminals. Travelers, please check flight status with your airline before heading to the airport."

The disturbance has impacted the terminal's ability to accept inbound and outbound flights. Terminal 1 is a hub for several international carriers, including Lufthansa, Air France and Korean Air.

According to Flightaware.com, around 129 flights into and out of JFK were delayed as of just before 5 p.m. There have been 24 flight cancellations.
