NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Brooklyn jury convicted a Queens gang leader on Monday for fatally shooting a rival gang member in retaliation for a robbery, the Department of Justice announced on Tuesday.

Christopher Acevedo, 28, is the founder and leader of the Wood City gang based around Woodhull Avenue in Jamaica, Queens, according to prosecutors.

On Aug. 26, 2019, members of a rival group called Snow Gang reportedly robbed a gold chain from a high-ranking member of Wood City at a Queens recording studio.

In retaliation for the robbery, Wood City members drove to Snow Gang territory and gunned down a leader of the group near the intersection of 140th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard.

The jury found Acevedo fired a dozen shots, killing David Hutchinson.

They convicted him of murder in-aid-of racketeering and causing death through the use of a firearm. He faces a mandatory life sentence for the killing.

“How senseless it was for Acevedo to callously take a human life to maintain and burnish his status as the leader of a violent street gang whose members felt insulted by the taking of a piece of jewelry,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. “With today’s verdict, the defendant will spend the rest of his life in prison.”
