NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The New-York Historical Society announced Wednesday it will honor Brooklyn-born Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in September 2020 at 87, with a special exhibition highlighting her life and historic rise to the bench beginning this October, according to a news release.
Based on a viral Tumblr and a bestselling book of the same name, Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the traveling exhibition organized by the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles will arrive at the historical center beginning Oct. 1, 2021 to Jan. 23, 2022.
The exhibition highlights historical photographs and documents, artifacts and contemporary art exhibits presenting her life as a student, wife, mother, lawyer and justice —cementing her status as a women's rights icon and a cultural phenomenon.
Some features of the exhibit include a robe and infamous ruffled neckpiece from Ginsburg's Supreme Court wardrobe, a QR-code where visitors can hear RBG delivering oral arguments, 3D replicas of her childhood Brooklyn apartment to home movies from her and her husband Martin “Marty” Ginsburg's honeymoon.
“It is a great honor that we celebrate Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a native New Yorker whose impact on the lives of contemporary Americans has been extraordinary,” said Dr. Louise Mirrer, president and CEO of the N-YHS.
“Justice Ginsburg fought hard to achieve justice and equality for all, inspiring us with her courage and tenacity in upholding our fundamental American ideals. A special friend to New-York Historical, in 2018 she presided over a naturalization ceremony in our auditorium. The exhibition is a memorial tribute to her achievements and legacy.”
The interactive exhibit will then travel to the Holocaust Museum Houston in Houston in March 2022 and the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. in September 2022.
