NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The body of Kavion Brown, 13, was pulled from the East River Friday afternoon, according to the family’s lawyers.

Calls came in around 2 p.m. on Friday describing a body resurfacing in the river near East 10th Street and FDR Drive, police said.

The body was removed from the river near Wall Street Heliport an hour and a half later, with Brown’s family present.

Brown had been missing for one week before his body was found. On Oct. 20 he plunged into the East River, further north around East 6th Street and FDR Drive, according to police.

The exact reason for Brown entering the water in unconfirmed by police, though they did confirm that he entered the river willingly.

According to a report by CBS News, detectives, after speaking to witnesses, believe that Godfrey may have been dared to go in the water.

The family has announced their plans to sue the Department of Education, saying that Brown should have been supervised more closely.

Brown had been told to come to East River Park by a coach at his school to support a soccer team, the family said.

The Department of Education did not immediately respond to 1010 WINS/WCBS 880’s request for comment.
