The homeowner found the remains while investigating a strange smell around 2:50 p.m. at his home on 138th Avenue near Carson Street in Queens’ Laurelton neighborhood, according to authorities.

He told police that he suspected the remains belonged to his son’s girlfriend who disappeared four months ago.

Police arrested his son, who still lives at the house, as soon as he came home.

Authorities have not yet charged the son with any crimes, and he was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

The coroner will now examine the remains to identify them and the cause of death.
