NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A new exhibit dedicated to birds debuted at Brooklyn Botanic Garden Saturday featuring 33 birdhouses created by artists, architects and designers.

The exhibit, on view from June 11 to Oct. 23, is titled ‘For the Birds’ and explores the interconnections of birds and plants as well as the urgent need to protect plant ecosystems.

Birdhouses are placed throughout the garden with the addition of a gallery exhibition, birding tours, music, performances, and education programming for all ages inspired by the Garden’s resident birds and the threat to their long-term survival.

The new exhibit is all the more relevant after a 2019 study published in Science Journal found a 30% decline in bird populations across North America since 1970 due to factors such as climate change, air and water pollution, and habitat destruction.

Randall Poster, the exhibition’s creative director, has done other projects related to birds including curating a 20-album set of original recordings set for release this year called “The Birdsong Project.” Some of the music will be woven into the For The Birds exhibit through a listening station and live performances.
