NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Staten Island man who was arrested for abusing 24 huskies at an abandoned lot pleaded not guilty to animal abuse charges on Wednesday, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's Office.
Victor Quinteros, 54, was arrested on July 29 after police raided an abandoned lot in Tompkinsville and rescued sixteen adult huskies and seven puppies. One other puppy was found dead on the scene.
Most of the dogs were trapped inside hot, feces strewn trailers.
Dogs were drinking out of maggot-ridden water and cooling off in a fetid kiddy pool.

The neglected animals are now in the care of the ASPCA, though they are still technically owned by Quinteros for the time being.
The DA's office is seeking a bond that would cover the cost of medical care for the dogs which has already exceeded $40,000.
