NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York has suspended in-person hearings and other dealings because of the pandemic, beginning Tuesday, the court announced.
"Effective Tuesday December 1, 2020, in-person operations in the Southern District of New York will be suspended until Janaury 15, 2021," Chief Judge McMahon said in a statement. "This temporary curtailment of operations is required to preserve public health and safety in light of the recent spike in coronavirus cases, both nationally and within the Southern District of New York."
The Southern District of New York encompasses the counties of New York, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, and Sullivan and draws jurors from those counties. The Court hears cases in Manhattan, White Plains, and Poughkeepsie.
