NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- State Sen. Kevin Parker announced he is joining the race to replace Scott Stringer as city comptroller.
Parker, who has served in the state Senate for 18 years, announced his run on NY1 Wednesday evening.
"We need people who have leadership and who can bring practical solutions to the table to get us out of this pandemic," Parker said.
The Brooklyn Democrat cited his time on the Senate's Finance Committee as one of the reasons why he's qualified for the city's chief financial post.
Parker said that as the city tackles issues like housing, economic opportunity, police reform and health care, "I think my background and my experience…will bring both the leadership as well as the vision that we're going to need going forward."
Parker joins Councilman Brad Lander, state Sen. Brian Benjamin and Assemblyman David Weprin in the race for comptroller after Stringer announced in September that he'd run for mayor in 2021.
