NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Staten Island’s very own, Marisa Corvo, has waited a long time for her moment. Three seasons to be exact. It came Monday night in the form of high praise from all four judges on “The Voice."

After choosing "Team Kelly Clarkson" on the singing competition, Corvo battled it out with Ryan Gallagher. Their performance of Celine Dion’s “I Surrender” left all four judges amazed.

In the end, Corvo’s power vocals led Clarkson to choose her as the winner. As Clarkson described the performance: “I couldn’t deny how Marisa just nailed it. She knocked it out of the park."

Corvo tells 1010 WINS it was an emotional moment for her. “I’m Italian from Staten Island. I’m strong. I can hold it together. I just kind of fell apart in that moment emotionally. I was just so blown away and humbled by what Blake and John and Gwen all had to say."

Although it has come together for her now, it was not an easy road to travel. Corvo says when she was 21 years old, coming out as gay cost her everything, including her family. She says her mother took it hard and she felt like she just lost herself.

This story has a happy ending. Her family could not be more proud of her. After questioning Corvo’s decision to move to California, they see it was the best decision for her.

You can catch Marisa Corvo next week on NBC’s “The Voice."
