NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police on Sunday night arrested a man in connection to the death of a 10-year-old boy found unresponsive and covered in bruises, in Harlem over the weekend.

Police charged 34-year old Ryan Cato, the boy's stepfather with murder, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the NYPD.

Ayden Wolfe, 10, died after being found unresponsive with "severe" bruising and lacerations in a Harlem apartment on Saturday, according to police.

Officers responding to a call of an assault found the boy in an apartment on W. 131st Street, near Frederick Douglass Boulevard, around 2:20 p.m., police said.

The boy was lying unconscious in a living room of the fourth-floor apartment at the Saint Nicholas Houses, police said. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the boy had severe bruising and lacerations to his body.

Two family members were being interviewed, police said.

The medical examiner will determine what caused the boy's death.

An investigation remains ongoing.
