NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating an unprovoked attack on an Asian man at the Delancey Street - Essex Street subway station on the Lower East Side as a hate crime.
A stranger slashed at the 41-year-old man’s face with a razor blade on Sunday at around 8:30 a.m.
The attacker fled the station, but the victim notified police who arrested 39-year-old Brendan Dowling nearby.
Dowling was charged with assault and tampering with physical evidence, because he threw the blade onto the tracks after the attack.
The NYPD hate crimes task force is investigating to determine if the attack was racially motivated.
