Taxi driver held at knifepoint by Midtown passenger who wanted free ride

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD released surveillance footage Friday of a man accused of holding a taxi driver at knifepoint during a robbery in Midtown last week.

The robbery occurred just after 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, officials said. According to police, the man was a passenger in a yellow taxi and, upon arriving at East 52nd Street, pulled out a knife and demanded that the 53-year-old driver stop the car.

The suspect then got out of the taxi without paying and fled on foot. He was last seen wearing a purple T-shirt and dark pants.

The driver was unharmed.
