NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An attacker pushed a 62-year-old man to the ground, punched and kicked his face and stole his wallet inside a Manhattan subway station on Saturday, the NYPD said.
The 62-year-old was standing on the northbound E train platform at the 5th Avenue/53rd Street subway station in midtown Manhattan around 4:05 p.m. on Saturday when a man he didn't know approached him from behind, pushed him down and started punching and kicking him in the face, police said.
The man managed to swipe the 62-year-old's wallet, which contained his credit cards and around $20 in cash, during the attack, the NYPD said.
The thief then used one of the cards to make a $5 transaction at Manhattan Plaza Winery on 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, police said.
The 62-year-old man was treated for his injuries at the scene, the NYPD said.
Police are now searching for the man's attacker, who was last seen wearing a tan jacket, a blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black and brown boots, a black winter hat and a black face mask.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppres Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
