NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A tree in Brooklyn fell over the weekend, narrowly missing three people, harrowing video shows.
The moment was captured on a security camera in a nearby house as the tree suddenly collapsed onto the pavement at the intersection of 20th Avenue and 59th Street in Borough Park on Saturday, March 1, narrowly missing pedestrians who had moved out of the way just seconds earlier.
No injuries were reported.
Michael Newman, his sister, and his brother-in-law were walking under the tree when they heard an unusual noise. "We heard a crackle," Newman told 1010 WINS. "We just instinctively ran forward, and within one or two seconds, that came crashing down."
The family believes their escape was more than just luck. "It was a true leap of faith," Newman said. "This was no matter of chance. This was a sign that God was showing us how much He loves us."
Newman described the experience as feeling like a miracle, saying how quickly everything happened. "You know you can't take life for granted and be thankful for every single second," he said.
Despite the close call, the family is focusing on gratitude. They plan to celebrate life at Newman's sister's wedding this week.
Authorities have not yet released information on what caused the tree to fall.
