NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Security will be "greatly reduced" at Trump Tower now that Joe Biden is president, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday.
The NYPD said earlier this week that it would "reevaluate" security outside Donald Trump's namesake tower on Fifth Avenue—as well as other locations affiliated with the former president—after the inauguration.
"It's still obviously a sensitive site, but it's going to be a much lower security profile," de Blasio said at his briefing Thursday, adding that the NYPD was working with the Secret Service on the matter.
"A lot more of the space around it is going to be opened up, which is a good thing for the people of that neighborhood and the people of the city," the mayor added.
ABC News Radio correspondent Aaron Katersky reported Thursday that the Secret Service had lifted a temporary flight restriction over Trump Tower. Planes and helicopters had been prohibited from entering a one-mile radius around the tower under 3,000 feet.
Trump is not expected to return to Trump Tower in any full-time capacity. He changed his residency to Florida in 2019. After departing the White House on Wednesday, he flew to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, where he is expected to relocate.
