NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A man used a large stone to break into a Bronx Popeyes restaurant, where he stole a safe containing thousands of dollars, police said Wednesday as they searched for a suspect.

Newly released NYPD video of the Oct. 10 break-in shows the man throwing the stone through a window of the Popeyes at Third Avenue and E. 148th Street in Mott Haven around 6 a.m.

The man then enters through the shattered window and crawls along the floor to a counter, where he sneaks through a register partition, the video shows.

Police said the man grabbed a small safe containing $2,000 before fleeing the restaurant on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
