VIDEO: Raucous raccoon rescued from 3rd-floor AC unit in Manhattan

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A critter that somehow made its way up to a third-floor window unit in Manhattan Friday needed a little help getting down.

The raccoon rescue went down near Fifth Avenue and West 16th Street Friday afternoon, and quite a crowd gathered to watch it happen.

The raccoon moved back and forth between the AC unit and the small ledge beside it, Citizen App video showed. The AC was on and surely blowing hot air at the animal.

NYPD crews grabbed a lift up to the window and used catch poles to try and pull the raccoon from the small space.

The raccoon didn’t let go of his new home easily — latching on for dear life before finally accepting its fate and joining the officers for the lift down.

Police said the riled-up raccoon was take to Animal Care Centers of NYC following the rescue.

Citizen's live broadcast of the rescue caught the eyes of over 100,000 viewers, and created plenty of conversation on social media.
