Woman, 88, critically injured in Washington Heights apartment fire

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A fire inside an Upper Manhattan apartment early Tuesday morning left an 88-year-old woman critically injured, authorities said.

The fire broke out at about 12:15 a.m. inside a fifth-floor apartment in a building on Bennett Avenue in Washington Heights.

The flames did not spread to any other apartments, fire officials said.

The woman was taken to New York-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

There were no other injuries reported.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
