NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man who was arrested for a Connecticut carjacking on Thursday was released before he tried to carjack two other vehicles in Brooklyn on Friday night, leaving a 40-year-old woman in critical condition when he struck her, according to police and sources.
Kahlil Ivey carjacked a vehicle in Waterbury, where he is from, on Thursday and drove it to Brooklyn, where he was arrested on Cropsey Avenue in Gravesend, police and sources said.
The 24-year-old went to court, was charged with grand larceny, and then released Friday, according to sources.
On Friday night, he tried to carjack another car on Surf Avenue, at W. 15th Street, in Coney Island, police said.
A father was putting his two daughters, ages 2 years and 18 months, in a car near the intersection. The motor was running when police said Ivey jumped into the driver's seat, put the car in reverse and tried to drive away.
A 40-year-old woman was struck by the car, according to police. She was taken to a hospital, where she was in extremely critical condition.
A 25-year-old woman was also knocked to the ground but was not injured. The two children were unharmed, police said.
Ivey ran away from that carjacking and tried to carjack another car, but police caught up to him and arrested him, according to police, who said a woman in the second carjacking was not injured.
