NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 32-year-old woman is dead after she jumped out of a moving car on the Long Island Expressway in Queens early Saturday morning and was struck by passing vehicles, police said.

Police identified the woman as Priyanka Sewhani of Oyster Bay.

She jumped from the vehicle, which sources told 1010 WINS was an Uber, at around 1:30 a.m. near the Kissena Boulevard overpass.

The 2019 Volkswagen was traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway when Sewhani opened a door in the backseat and leaped, officials said.

After she exited the car, Sewhani fell to the roadway and was struck by passing vehicles. It was not immediately clear how many cars hit her, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that the Uber driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. One of the cars that struck her fled.

Paul Singh, who works at Guru Grocery on Kissena Boulevard, told 1010 WINS that he saw commotion in the aftermath of the incident but was not sure what it was.

“I was actually on the service road last night trying to get off on Kissena, and it was backed up, not one car was moving,” Singh said. “I got a little skeptical of what’s going on, waited for like 20 minutes.”

When he found out what happened, Singh said that he couldn’t comprehend it.

“Some guys from the neighborhood, they were showing me videos of the scene itself,” he said. “A lot of cop presence, totally shut down.”

The reason Sewhani jumped from her Uber is not yet known. An investigation is ongoing.
