
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 38-year-old woman’s body was found in the Bronx on Friday night, and police say a person of interest is in custody.
At about 10:09 p.m., police responded to a report of a past assault at the Overlook Apartments, located at 240 West 167th Street in the Highbridge Section of the Bronx, officials said.
According to sources, the deceased was discovered by a friend who called 911.
The woman was found facedown in an apartment living room with trauma to her body. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene, police said.
The medical examiner’s office will determine the woman’s cause of death. Release of the woman's identity is pending family notification.
One person of interest is in custody, but the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
A police source told the New York Daily News that the woman may have been beaten, and that she was found with bruises throughout her body.
The Daily News also reported that the woman’s boyfriend was in the apartment when her friend called 911, and that responding officers took the boyfriend into custody on an unrelated crime.
