NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Brooklyn woman surrendered to the NYPD on Tuesday following an incident at a playground where she threw hot coffee at a man wearing a Keffiyeh, a Palestinian scarf, and his young son in Brooklyn.
Hadasa Bozakkaravani 48, approached the victims, Ashish Prashar and his 18-month-old son at the Edmonds Playground near DeKalb Avenue in Fort Greene on Nov. 7, at around 12:30 p.m.
"She said, 'Do you support Hamas? Do you know they are terrorists?'" Prashar claimed Bozakkaravani told him, in an interview with the Daily News.
"Then she said my people are all dogs. … 'Do you know your people burn babies? … I hope someone burns your baby in an oven,'" Prashar said.
Prashar started to record Bozakkaravani and she charged at the victims.
Bozakkaravani then threw her cellphone and a hot cup of coffee at them, according to police.
The child was not harmed during the incident.
Bozakkaravani had also told Prashar she is Jewish and that "your people don't belong here."
Prashar, who was born in the U.K. and has lived in NYC for nine years, says he is Punjabi — not Palestinian or Arab.
Prashar, in a statement, emphasized that Bozakkaravani's actions do not represent the Jewish community as a whole.
Her arraignment is pending in Brooklyn Criminal Court.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Bozakkaravani was arrested on four criminal offenses charged as hate crimes: two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and aggravated harassment.
