NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Three women sleeping inside an Airbnb in Midtown East awoke to discover a trio of thieves ransacking the place, according to police and a report.
Two 22-year-old women and a 23-year-old women were asleep inside an apartment at 333 E. 52nd St., near 1st Avenue, in Sutton Place around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday when three intruders turned on the lights and woke them up, the NYPD said.
The males of an unknown age told the women they were in the apartment to investigate credit card fraud, police said.
The trio then fled the apartment with unspecified belongings, the NYPD said. None of them had been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The New York Post reported that the apartment was serving as an Airbnb when the theft happened. An investigation is ongoing.
In a statement provided to 1010 WINS, an Airbnb spokesperson said the company's "dedicated Community Support team is providing our full support to our guests following this experience."
"We've issued them a full refund and we are working on assisting them with a new place to stay," the spokesperson added. "The listing is deactivated as we actively investigate this incident."
