NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole has tested positive for COVID-19, team manager Aaron Boone said after Monday night's 7-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

"Gerrit will not be pitching tomorrow, he's actually tested positive for COVID," Boone told reporters when asked about 30-year-old Cole's scheduled Tuesday start. "So he will not be pitching tomorrow."

When asked by a reporter if any other other players had tested positive, Boone said, "As of now, he is the only one."

So who will replace Cole on Tuesday? "It'll likey be Nestor (Cortes Jr.)," Boone said.

Boone said he was told in the second inning of Monday's game that Cole had tested positive for the virus.

Cole was at the stadium Monday night and spoke to reporters before the game via Zoom.
