NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Long Island man was charged on Wednesday after leaving the scene of a crash without reporting it which resulted in the death of a woman in May, prosecutors said.
Steven Syrop, 52, allegedly struck Jennifer Bianco, 42, around midnight on May 21 and did not report the accident to the police.
Syrop, driving a blue 2020 Chevy Silverado, allegedly hit Bianco as she walked along the shoulder of North Ocean Avenue in Holtsville.
He then left the scene and Bianco died at the scene as a result of the injuries she sustained from the crash.
Prosecutors found car parts along the shoulder of the road where the collision happened and said that they matched the damage to Syrop's car, which was found parked at his home the day after the incident.
"This defendant was allegedly more concerned about the consequences that he would face, rather than rendering aid to Jennifer Bianco," Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said
Syrop was ordered to be held on bail.
His New York State driver's license has been suspended.
He is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 7.
