DEER PARK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — With Thanksgiving approaching, a Long Island pizzeria took the traditional, beloved foods of the holiday and put them on a pie—going viral in the process.
“Between Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, over 10 million viewers,” Pino Barbieri, the owner of Pino’s Pizza of Deer Park, told 1010 WINS.
The pizza was created by accident out of a normal problem of the Thanksgiving season: extra turkey. Barbieri took the protein, mixed it with some seasonal ingredients and had a hit on his hands.
“Cheese on the bottom, we spread some roasted turkey gravy, apple, corn bread and sausage stuffing, then our fresh carved turkey,” Barbieri explained. The whole thing is topped with “Salpino’s famous cranberry sauce.”
Since the menu item has gone viral, Barbieri said that people have travelled from all over to get ahold of it. This week alone visitors from New York City, Atlantic City, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the Hamptons have made their way to the Deer Park joint.
“It has the cranberries on it, it has the apple stuffing. It's just, it’s everything you want in a pizza pie,” one customer told 1010 WINS. “I'm getting another one tomorrow for Thanksgiving Day.”
Pino’s Pizza is open from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve, but closed on the actual holiday.
“Enjoy the day with your family!” the restaurant wrote on social media.
The Thanksgiving pizza will be sold through the weekend, however, and Barbieri said he could extend its place on the menu if demand is high enough.
