ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Philadelphia man admitted to fatally stabbing his girlfriend in a room at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.
Frankie E. Lane, 61, pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter earlier this week, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Atlantic City police responded to the hotel on June 11, 2021 for a report of a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Sharon Whaley, 57, was found dead in a hotel room with a sheet covering her body and a knife on top of the sheet, according to a news release from the prosecutor's office.
He was seen on surveillance footage wearing clothing that was later found in a bag that had been tossed in a trash can in Atlantic City.
Lane was later seen leaving the hotel with the suitcase but not having it with him when he arrived at the Atlantic City bus terminal, where security footage showed him traveling back to Philadelphia.
Lane was located and surrendered to law enforcement a few days later.
He is expected to be sentenced to 20 years in state prison on June 23 and would have to serve at least 17 years before being eligible for parole.
