CLIFTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey man is charged with attacking and threatening to kill a 68-year-old parking enforcement officer Tuesday who had just ticketed his car, authorities said.
The officer was issuing a summons for a car parked on Madison Avenue in Clifton when the owner came out of a nearby home and confronted him, police said.
"The suspect, who was irate, then stepped on the officer's shoes, placed him in a bear hug, and threatened to kill the officer and his family," city police Det. Lt. Robert Bracken told NJ.com in an email.
Bracken said the man also ripped the ticket book from the officer’s hands and removed all four copies of the summons before getting into his vehicle and driving off.
"The officer was shaken up, but not injured," Bracken said.
Clifton police said a warrant was issued for the man's arrest. He surrendered to police later Tuesday and was taken to a local jail.
He was charged with simple assault, obstruction, terroristic threats, destruction of evidence and hindering, Bracken said.
