HACKENSACK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a man in New Jersey accused of kidnapping a woman at knifepoint then robbing her on Monday, officials said.

At approximately 3 p.m., the 52-year-old victim was walking at the corner of Passaic and First streets in Hackensack when 20-year-old Esben Sarabe approached and held a kitchen knife to her waist, authorities said.

According to Detective Capt. Michael Antista, Sarabe put his other hand on the woman's body and forced her to walk about two blocks in an effort to get her into a home.

Authorities said a passerby called 911 after hearing the woman scream, which prompted the suspect to flee with the victim's phone and handbag.

Sgt. John Dalton and Sgt. Sean Briggs located Sarabe behind a business on Anderson Street where he was taken into custody, cops said.

Sarabe was charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, weapons possession charges, and terroristic threats.

Police recovered the victim's belongings and the knife near the area where the incident occurred.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Officials said the victim and suspect did not each other.

An investigation remains ongoing.
