ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A 46-year-old man was charged with arson after he allegedly set his car on fire on a New Jersey highway for insurance money last month, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Tramaine Hayward, of New Rochelle, was charged with second-degree aggravated arson to collect insurance and third-degree arson, according to court records.

On Feb. 9, police responded to a vehicle fire on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Englewood Cliffs at around 12:35 a.m. where officers found a 2010 Nissan Altima fully engulfed in flames.

Officers put out the fire and further investigation revealed that Hayward was the vehicle's owner, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Hayward was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in court.
